I. Cách dùng "hold on"
1. "hold on"là phrasal verb nội động từ
2. Cách dùng
2.1. Mang nghĩa"duy trì tại vị trí hiện tại (khó khăn....)"
=to continue to do something difficult while waiting for help

- Can you hold on for just a few more minutes? Then you can take a break.
2.2. Mang nghĩa"chờ chút (khi nghe điện thoại)"
=to wait while someone else does something, especially when you are using the phone

- Can you hold on? I'll try to connect you.
- Hold on, I'll be with you in a minute.
2.3. Mang nghĩa"đợi đã nào (thể hiện sự bất ngờ)"
=used to say that you are confused or surprised by something that you have just heard or read and want to understand it

2.1. Mang nghĩa"nắm chặt lấy cái gì, giữ lấy"
=to keep holding something/somebody

- Với nghĩa này, hold on to không dùng với passive voice

- Hold on and don't let go until I say so.
- He held on to the back of the chair to stop himself from falling.
- A mother can't hold on to her children for ever. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Một người mẹ không thể giữ chặt con mình mãi mãi)
- Hold on to the banister rail! (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Hãy nắm lấy tay vịnh cầu thang!)
- I'll hold on to the memories. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Anh sẽ giữ lấy những kí ức)
- It’s very windy—you’d better hold on to your hat.
2.2. Mang nghĩa"giữ khư khư"
=to keep something that is an advantage for you; to not give or sell something to somebody else

- You should hold on to your oil shares.
- Small investors were advised to hold on to their shares. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Các nhà đầu tư nhỏ được khuyên nên giữ lại cổ phiếu của họ)

- She took an early lead in the race and held on to it for nine laps.
