Phrasal Verb - cụm động từ - là một trong những nội dung cần thiết cho tất cả người học và muốn học tốt tiếng Anh. Học Phrasal verb vô cùng quan trọng chúng giúp chúng ta vừa có được vốn từ vựng nói riêng và vừa có có được những động từ tiếng Anh cần thiết nhất giúp người học tiếng Anh làm chủ trong giao tiếp. Run about/ around
Nghĩa: Be very busy doing many different things (bận rộn làm nhiều việc)
Ví dụ: I’ve been RUNNING ABOUT all week getting everything ready for the holidays.
Run across
Nghĩa 1: Cross by running (băng qua)
Ví dụ: The police RAN ACROSS the bridge to catch the criminal.
Nghĩa 2: Find or discover by chance (vô tình tìm ra)
Ví dụ: While I was cleaning the kitchen cupboards, I RAN ACROSS Mother’s recipe for Cornish game hens.
Run after
Nghĩa 1: Chase (đuổi theo)
Ví dụ: That dog will get hurt if he continues to RUN AFTER cars.
Nghĩa 2: Make a determined effort to win someone’s affections (theo đuổi)
Ví dụ: She RUNS AFTER any man in uniform!
Run against
Nghĩa: Oppose, make difficulties. (đối đầu, cản trở gây khó khăn)
Ví dụ: Luck is really RUNNING AGAINST you tonight!
Run around after
Nghĩa: Spend a lot of time doing things for another person or group of people (bỏ nhiều thời gian để làm việc gì cho ai)
Ví dụ: I have spent all morning RUNNING AROUND AFTER the kids.
Run away
Nghĩa 1: Flee by running (bỏ chạy)
Ví dụ: The crowd had to RUN AWAY from the burning structure with only the clothes on their backs.
Nghĩa 2: Leave home (bỏ nhà)
Ví dụ: The little boy was unhappy about having to take a bath every day and decided to RUN AWAY from home.
Run away with
Nghĩa 1: Leave secretly with another person (bỏ trốn với ai)
Ví dụ: She RAN AWAY with my best friend.
Nghĩa 2: Steal and get away with it (tẩu thoát cùng chiến lợi phẩm)
Ví dụ: The robber RAN AWAY WITH some valuable paintings.
Nghĩa 3: Be misled (lầm đường lạc lối)
Ví dụ: Don’t RUN AWAY WITH the idea that this money will solve all your problems.
Nghĩa 4: Overwhelm, get the better of (quá tải)
Ví dụ: He allowed his emotions to RUN AWAY WITH him.
Nghĩa 5: Be superior or outstanding in something (vượt trội mặt gì)
Ví dụ: Team USA RAN AWAY WITH the medal count.
Run by
Nghĩa 1: Inform someone briefly of the main points of an idea (thông báo, thông qua)
Ví dụ: Let me RUN that idea BY the board before we spend too much time on it.
Nghĩa 2: Briefly stop at a location for a particular purpose (dừng lại nơi nào vì mục đích gì đó)
Ví dụ: Can you RUN BY the store for milk?
Run for it
Nghĩa: To run very quickly in order to escape from someone or something (chạy thoát, chạy vì gì)
Ví dụ: As soon as he looked the other way, we RAN FOR IT.
Run into
Nghĩa 1: Enter by running (chạy vào)
Ví dụ: He RAN INTO the building.
Nghĩa 2: Collide with (đâm vào)
Ví dụ: He lost control of the vehicle and RAN INTO a tree.
Nghĩa 3: Encounter or meet unexpectedly (gặp bất ngờ)
Ví dụ: I RAN INTO your cousin the other day.
Nghĩa 4: Cause to blend into (tán vào)
Ví dụ: You can use the paintbrush this way to RUN the colors INTO each other.
Nghĩa 5: Reach a large figure (đạt số lượng lớn)
Ví dụ: By the end, the cost of the project RAN INTO the millions of dollars.
Run low
Nghĩa: Near the end of a supply of something; to be nearly running out (sắp hết hàng)
Ví dụ: Our stocks of meat are RUNNING LOW.
Run on
Nghĩa 1: Continue without interruption (tiếp tục không gián đoạn)
Ví dụ: We can’t afford for the performance to RUN ON for more than the specified time.
Nghĩa 2: Using a certain time zone (sử dụng một múi giờ)
Ví dụ: I was still RUNNING ON daylight savings time.
Nghĩa 3: Continue talking for a long time (nói liên tục)
Ví dụ: She RAN ON and wouldn’t let anyone get a word in edgeways.
Nghĩa 4: Operate with a particular energy source (chạy bằng nhiên liệu)
Ví dụ: This car RUNS ON bio-alcohol.
Run out
Nghĩa 1: Use up; to consume all of something (hết hàng)
Ví dụ: If this hot weather continues, we will RUN OUT of ice cream.
Nghĩa 2: Expire, to come to an end (hết hạn)
Ví dụ: The option will RUN OUT next week and I can’t get it extended.
Nghĩa 3: Extend a piece of material, or clothing (chèn thêm vải)
Ví dụ: If I RUN OUT these curtains, they will fit the windows in the drawing room.
Run over
Nghĩa 1: Exceed the allotted time (vượt quá thời gian quy định)
Ví dụ: The previous presentation RAN OVER and ours had to start late.
Nghĩa 2: Cross by running (băng qua)
Ví dụ: The athletes must RUN OVER the bridge to reach the finish line.
Nghĩa 3: Drive over, causing injury or death (cán chết)
Ví dụ: Can you believe somebody would just RUN OVER a cat like that?
Nghĩa 4: Describe briefly (miêu tả sơ qua)
Ví dụ: Before we start the project, let’s just RUN OVER who is doing what.
Nghĩa 5: Rehearse quickly (xem xét, luyện tập lại)
Ví dụ: You’d better RUN OVER your statement before going on the platform.
Nghĩa 6: Overflow (tràn)
Ví dụ: The bath water nearly RAN OVER.
Run to
Nghĩa 1: Reach a particular maximum amount, size, value, etc. (đạt tới số liệu nào)
Ví dụ: The repairs RAN TO 1,200 Euros.
Nghĩa 2: Reach the limit of one’s abilities or tastes (đạt giới hạn)
Ví dụ: I don’t think my carpentry RUNS TO making a window.
Run up against
Nghĩa: Begin to encounter problems with someone or something (bắt đầu gặp rắc rối, trục trặc)
Ví dụ: The latest model has RUN UP AGAINST the limits of its technical capacity.
Run up on
Nghĩa: To confront someone with hostility (đối đầu, thù nghịch)
Ví dụ: He gonna RUN UP ON me talking about I owe him some money.
Run with
Nghĩa: Proceed with; accept (tiến hành, chấp nhận)
Ví dụ: We do lots of tests before we RUN WITH a product.
